Through a generous gift from the Evin B. Hartsell Foundation, the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities (FCIC/UCEDD) is proud to offer a scholarship opportunity for trainees living with disabilities or focusing their studies on the field of disability.

The Evin B. Hartsell Endowed Memorial Scholarship is open to full- or part-time students at the sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate levels who are active trainees of FCIC/UCEDD and pursuing a major in Social Work or Counseling in the College of Behavioral & Community Sciences (CBCS) and/or Psychology in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) on any USF campus.

This $1,000 award ($500 per semester for a maximum of two semesters) prioritizes financial need and is awarded based on the following preferences:

  1. Students with a disability who are U.S. Military Veterans with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  2. Students with a disability who are U.S. Military Veterans.
  3. Students with a disability.


If there are no applicants who meet the above preferences, any CBCS FCIC/UCEDD trainee dedicated to the study of disabilities in accordance with the DD Act of 2000 may be awarded.

Application Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:

  • Read Abled in a Disabled World by Evin B. Hartsell (available through the USF library).
  • Submit an essay reflecting on the book.
  • Provide a resume as part of the application.
